Josephine Brewer

Born Josefina Juliana Llarena in 1951 in Havana, Cuba, Josephine immigrated with her family to the United States in 1960. Having spent her early years in Havana where she attended a French school, and having visited France as a child, her first and second languages were Spanish and French. As a naturalized citizen, Josephine mastered the English language and attended the University of Washington where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Spanish Literature. While at UW, she also studied Italian and Portuguese. Language and travel have always been an important part of Josephine’s life. As we are geographically isolated in the United States, we can only build relationships and gain understanding by experiencing others’ cultures. She has long been a practitioner of gardening, homeopathy and sustainable living.
